Top Ten Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme started over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they have a specific topic for a top ten list. Link up, visit some new blogs and add to your ever growing TBR list! This week's topic is:

Top Ten Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters

Aristotle and Dante Two Boys Kissing The Agency What I Thought Was True Fangirl
Hero The Astrologer's Daughter The Perks of Being a Wallflower Runaways Lola and the Boy Next Door

I started listing every book I could think of that I'd read that included diversity and only got 23. I'm disappointed. So here's to reading more diverse books, and if you're interested to do so, be sure to check out We Need Diverse Books, which is fantastic. Are there any YA novels with a wheelchair-bound character? That's what I'd like to read. As someone growing up disabled, I would've appreciated it. I can think of some characters in graphic novels and TV only. In TV shows though they always got 'cured'. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. If only I had any writing talent!

What are your favourite diverse reads? Tell me about the ones you think I absolutely have to read!

  1. Two Boys Kissing and The Perks of Being a Wallflower were both very close to making my list. Great picks!

    1. Thank you, Lauren. I need to read more diverse books so I have a harder decision to make in creating a Top 10 list in future! ;-)

  2. Aristotle & Dante is one of my favorite books of all time. I was so excited when Saenz said he was writing a sequel. If you're interested, here's mine.
