Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine! It spotlights soon to be released books that can't come quick enough!
I'm sure a lot of you have already heard of my pick this week...
John Green's The Fault in Our Stars!
Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 12, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs... for now.
Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.
Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind. (summary from Goodreads)
Though buzz about this book has been ongoing for the last few months, this is actually the first time I've read it's summary. I'd actually pre-ordered my copy before the cover image was even released! Why? Because John Green is signing every first edition ordered through Amazon and other sites, and I wanted in on that. Awesome, right? And now reading that summary I know I'll love it and it'll be worth it. Plus Augustus has a fantastic last name!
The expected release date of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is 10 January 2012.
