The Hunger Games: The Capitol.pn & Panem October

I probably don't need to go into detail about this as it's been going around for a while now, but some time ago two new sites related to The Hunger Games launched! One from Lionsgate, the company behind the making of the upcoming movie, and the other an online ARG (Alternate Reality Game) from fans of the series. Both allowed users to sign up immediately, but only launched come October.

I don't know the whole story behind TheCapitol.pn yet, the official Lionsgate site, but when registering you could do so through either Twitter or Facebook and were immediately sorted into a District. I was happily sorted into District 11, which is Rue and Thresh's District. Just a couple of days ago District 11 was 'processed' for DIPs (District Identification Pass). Here's mine!

As for the fan made ARG site, Panem October, it seems pretty self-explanatory. So far I've been sorted into District 9 here and have created my DIP. Each DIP (and consequently, user) has a barcode that can be scanned by smartphone users (as you can also see on the DIP above). The more scans - or user 'adds' if you don't have a smartphone - the better. This site also hasn't completely launched however, but when it does the idea is to use social media to 'play' The Hunger Games. At the moment the site is down due to 'Peacekeeper Drafts' where some 2000 random users are being selected as Peacekeepers (I hope I'm not one!!), and I haven't saved my DIP yet to share. But once it's up and running again, I'll upload it here too. Edit: Here it is! And I'm not a Peacekeeper! Phew!

Now, I'm not much of a gamer, so I might not be explaining it all that well! But I must say, I am intrigued and looking forward to more from both sites! Have you registered? If so, what Districts were you sorted into?

  1. For the first site, I'm in District 7 and I'm a lumberjack! I haven't heard of the second site, so I'm going to go check it out now!
