In My Mailbox (12)

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi of The Story Siren.

Another very quiet week this week - which is a good thing in a way, as I have so much catching up to do.

Bought:

Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay (Kindle edition)

I just can't seem to shake myself out of this review writing slump, and I find that it's beginning to effect my reading too. Have you found yourself in a slump before? How do you get out of it? Any ideas?

  1. I have most definitely found myself in a slump. A few weeks ago, I just couldn't be bothered to review any of the books I'd read; I was telling myself I didn't need to review everything and that I should wait until I was truly inspired, but if that was the case, then it could be weeks before I posted a review.

Honestly? You just have to do it; start writing again. Give yourself a set time, like 6pm or something, and tell yourself you *will* write 1 review then. Even if what you write is not very good, it's something. Sometimes you need to write a review or two that you're not pleased with, just to get you into the groove of writing again. You will find that it will get better after that; it is just starting that is the hardest part.

  2. I'm in a creative slump at the moment :/ I have some swaps I'm a part of, and I seriously can't get the motivation to start working of them. I find starting slowly on one thing sometimes gets you back into the swing of it. Or maybe you could review your most favourite book ever? That might help?

  3. I love the cover of Juliet Immortal and it sounds so good! Hope you enjoy it :)

I usually write a review as soon as I read a book. I don't let myself read another until the review is done...

  4. @TG Thanks for sharing! It does seem to be a common thing, which makes me feel a bit better. I've been questioning myself much like you did. I guess in everything there's a slump period, right?

This advice has been really good for me, so thank you so much! Every night I've been forcing myself to write for an hour or two. I haven't posted a review yet, but it's been working and I'm slowly getting there! Starting has definitely been the hardest part. I'm feeling much better about it now though, and hopefully a few reviews will be up next week. :-D

    Thanks for the push!

  5. @:: Lavender's Green :: Aw, I hope you're back into it soon! You do such gorgeous work! Taking it one thing at a time - just starting something - does seem to be the best advice! It's helped me! So has your advice to start with something I really enjoyed, so thanks heaps, Dave! I'm getting back into it and will hopefully have more reviews up soon!

    xoxo

  6. @Hafsah @ IceyBooks It is such a beautiful cover! I have to resist buying it in print too, just so I can have that cover on my shelf! ;-)

Thank you for the tip! It's a good one to go by, so I am not reading a new book until I have caught up on all of my reviews! Then from now on - fingers crossed - I'll write the review before I start a new one too! :-D
